If it’s a special occasion for you, it’s a special occasion for us.
Monika Schleifer, Floral Artist and Owner of Buttonwood Blooms, discovered her passion for flowers at a very early age. When she was in 10th grade, Monika’s mother enrolled her in floral design classes through the Reading Area Community College (RACC); it didn’t take long for Monika to fall in love with flowers. She gained confidence in her skills when an instructor told Monika that she had an eye for design and even hired her for several events.
In addition to the classes through RACC, Monika also attended the well-known Hickson School of Floral Design before graduating from high school. Then, while earning her degree in Ornamental Horticulture/Floriculture from Delaware Valley University, she opened a floral department in her family’s grocery store where she honed her customer service skills. After college, Monika worked and freelanced in different floral shops and fine-tuned her design skills by taking classes at Texas A&M.
In 2003, she purchased her own floral shop and put all of the design and business skills she’d learned to work for herself. She also wanted to share the joys and challenges of entrepreneurship with her son and help him develop a strong work ethic.
Monika’s floral arrangements are unlike any you’ll see elsewhere. She starts with only the freshest and best-quality flowers. For example, she only uses certain varieties of roses – long-lasting with a high petal count. Monika also likes to incorporate unique flowers and foliage that other shops aren’t using to create textural interest in her arrangements, and she’s always on the lookout for new and better flower varieties.
